The Lion

The Lion was a subspecies called the Barbary Lion. It had a long black mane going down it’s shoulders and back extending to its underbelly. It lived in northern Africa, Morocco and Egypt.In size it weighed over 500 pounds and over 11 feet in length. Due to man’s killing of this beautiful animal it is now officially declared extinct.

The lion of African  lives primarily in the eastern and southern region of the African continent. The Sahara desert is their northern border. The Asiatic lion lives in the Gir National Forest of India. The Lions eat wilder-beasts, warthogs, zebras, buffalo,antelopes, deer and wild boar.A female lion is called a Lioness. The Lion cubs spend much of their time playing. This is how they learn the survival skills they will need as adults.Most hunting is done at night or early morning. The lion cubs are Usually between two and four. The difference between an African, Asian and American The Asian lion is a little smaller then the African lion, has a slight roll of skin on its belly and has a wider muzzle. The lion has No natural enemies, only man.
